The Next Stage at the 5th: A Fresh Auditorium
The Fifth Avenue Theatre has had the same audience seats since originally reopening in 1980. In January 2022, The 5th will reopen after being closed for nearly two years due to the public health crisis. This project started, then stopped, and then restarted. Restarting in 2021, the 5th Avenue Theatre is going through a refresh and update of the space, with both the Orchestra Level and the Grand Tier receiving new seats and carpets.
With the scheduled reopening, the deadline on this project was a challenge that required detailed work plans and a tight schedule. Diligent awareness and protection of the existing decorative artistic plaster and silk tapestries were critical. JTM completed demolition of over 2,100 existing seats and carpet, with 1,250 square feet of ADA seating and access flooring, and a new power supply for lighting at the new seats.
