Puyallup Tribe opens glistening new headquarters

February 12, 2025

The Puyallup Tribe of Indians moved into a new administrative headquarters building in November.

The HQ is located at 2024 E. 29th St. in Tacoma, on the former Emerald Queen Casino site. The brand-new building is four stories and 95,000 square feet. It provides a modern and functional space for the tribe’s various administrative needs and has a glistening all-glass facade. Thirty tribal departments are currently located in the building. In addition to office space, there are ample conference rooms, six break rooms/kitchenettes and a deck amenity. The tribe’s administrative functions were previously located in a much smaller 30,000-square-foot property about a block away from the new building. The new building is served by a multi-level, 195,000-square-foot, parking garage, ensuring employees and visitors always have a place to park. That was built at the same time as the administrative building.

Wright Runstad was the development manager for the project. Freiheit Architecture of Bellevue was the architect. Seattle’s JTM Construction was the general contractor. JTM broke ground in April 2023. The project team also includes structural engineer KPFF Consulting Engineers.

A blessing and open house was held Nov. 15 for the new administration building.

The headquarters is located just east of the new $400 million Emerald Queen Casino and Hotel, which opened in 2020. The tribe chose to build its new HQ on the site of the old casino in order to revitalize the 17.6-acre site and is promising future development that it says will further benefit the community. Floated future development includes a museum and a new entertainment district.

The tribe also has an Emerald Queen Casino location in Fife, around three miles from the Tacoma casino.
