Rebranded SLU hotel to open in April

May 13, 2025

International hospitality company Starwood Hotels Group announced last summer that it was taking over management of the hotel and would be renovating and rebranding the property under its 1 Hotels division. The 1 Hotels venture was launched in 2015 as a “nature-inspired lifestyle brand.”

The new 1 Hotel Seattle has 153 guest rooms, including 45 suites. A City King Room will currently cost $268 per night. Amenity spaces include a new signature restaurant from Chef Oscar Amador Edo called La Loba, offering a fusion of Spanish, Mediterranean and Japanese cuisine made with local ingredients; a lobby bar and lounge with an illuminated art wall; and a fitness center with Peloton bikes and resistance treadmills. The hotel also has a large events space with an outdoor terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows framing views of the Space Needle, plus multiple meeting and event rooms.

In keeping with the brand, 1 Hotel Seattle has biophilic styling inspired by local nature, and in a press release is described as an “urban retreat” that blends “sustainable luxury with the restorative beauty of the Pacific Northwest.” The hotel’s lobby includes a living wall of cascading greenery. Adjacent to the lobby is a lushly landscaped outdoor terrace. Guest rooms have large windows and offer sweeping city views. Inspired by the region’s landscapes, Starwood Hotels says each room “reflects the imperfections of nature,” with reclaimed wood finishes, stone-clad millwork, moss-inspired art installations, and live-edge furniture showcasing the craftsmanship of local artisans.

AXIS/GFA Architecture + Design is the architect for the overall rebrand/renovation. JTM Construction is the general contractor. Florida firm Land-Ron renovated the guest rooms. Studio Collective was the interior designer. In addition to its biophilic aesthetic, the hotel boasts several sustainable features such as energy-efficient smart thermostats, low-VOC materials, and advanced air quality management systems. Through a partnership with Foodprint Group, the property intends to divert over 90% of its waste from landfills. The hotel uses reusable glassware and compostable materials in place of single-use plastics.

1 Hotel Seattle opened last week with a ceremonial tree planting and remarks from Deputy Mayor Jessyn Farrell, Starwood Hotels CEO Raul Leal, and the hotel’s general manager Rob Brandenberg. La Loba is open Tuesday through Saturday from 5-10 p.m. 1 Hotel Seattle is part of the commercial condominium at the 2200 Westlake complex. The hotel portion is owned by KHP Capital Partners of San Francisco.
