On July 27 through 30, The Jack mixed-use office building, at 74 S. Jackson St., will host its first event; a temporary art exhibit called the Exploded View. This invitational exhibit is curated by neighborhood artists Jane Richlovsky and Dawn Endean.

The Exploded View explores the practice of printmaking. The exhibit will fill The Jack’s ground level retail space with sculptures, immersive installations, videos and augmented reality experiences created by artists that are pushing the practice of printmaking beyond the two-dimensional plane.

Selected artworks explore the thought process and mechanics of printmaking. The curators say the idea for the show evolved from a conversation about how printmaking is traditionally considered a two-dimensional medium, but always requires artists to think three-dimensionally. The Exploded View is funded by the Pioneer Square Business Improvement Area 2023 Inspiration Fund.

The Jack, developed by Urban Visions and designed by Olson Kundig, is a brand-new eight-story mixed-use office building at 74 S. Jackson St. overlooking the Seattle waterfront (the exhibit address is 316 Alaskan Way S.) Project general contractor JTM Construction broke ground on the building in spring 2020 but work was soon halted due to the pandemic. Construction resumed in summer 2021.

The Jack is yet to officially open but received a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy on June 20. That certificate covers the property’s ground level retail space as well as office floors one through eight. An official opening date for the building, or any tenants, are yet to be announced. JLL is brokering The Jack.
